Abstract

Through the analysis of the film Casa (2019) by Letícia Simões, we investigate how alliances are formed among three generations of women in the family: the director-character, her mother Heliana, and Carmelita, her grandmother. Our hypothesis is that the film becomes a site of cohabitation, as postulated by Judith Butler (2018), by promoting encounters that recreate the bonds between them, resulting in a new space, a shelter for happy and painful memories. To achieve this, the director focuses on scenes typically filmed in domestic environments and the use of family photographs, elements that reveal various fractures while simultaneously creating new connections.
