Abstract

In 2018, three comedies were released in Argentina that take place during family or couples’ vacations: All Inclusive by Diego and Pablo Levy, Las Vegas by Juan Villegas and Sueño Florianópolis by Ana Katz. Each presents situations that disrupt the holiday harmony. By doing so, they reconfigure interpersonal relationships either based on genre and gender conventions or by stepping away from them. Within the enclosed and sometimes carnivalesque universe that vacations enable, these films use comedy to express different perspectives on marriage and family. This article aims to reflect on the role that happiness (and its failure) plays in the vacation and family fantasy within the construction of the genre (comedy) and gender perspectives.
