Sob o manto das disparidades: Os intermitentes inícios do cinema colombiano nas telas da América Latina

Abstract

Since its emergence, Colombian cinema has faced enormous obstacles compared to other Latin American cinematographies. In this article, we analyze some main historical singularities that contributed to the inertia of the film industry in Colombia, from the introduction of the cinematograph in the country until the end of the first half of the 20th century. While countries like Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil prospered industrially in their filmographies and stood out in Latin America, Colombian cinema was unable to follow the same path. On the contrary, Colombian film production has not consolidated itself as a relevant industry, not even internally. This resulted in a cinema without a clear conceptual direction and with limited representation, making it difficult to promote itself in regional markets. The adverse circumstances and the various obstacles highlighted throughout its evolution have marked the trajectory of Colombian cinema as an example of an industry in constant development and with significant challenges.
