Abstract

In this article, two fiction films by Argentine female directors will be discussed: Este loco amor loco (Eva Landeck, 1979) and Un muro de silencio (Lita Stantic, 1993), with the aim of revaluing the works of both filmmakers in the field of studies on Argentine cinema, and investigate possible links on the ways of configuring the gaze in relation to space from a gender perspective. Returning to analytical approaches of feminist film theory, the configuration of the gaze in the films will be examined through the gaze of the leading female characters, in a swing between strangeness (alienness to space, incomprehension, danger) and affirmation (self-knowledge, motorization of action). Likewise, the functioning of this view will be considered based on the particularity of the contexts of civil-military dictatorship, on the one hand, and democratic restoration, on the other.
