Walking Cinema

Abstract

This article discusses walking as a poetic and political practice that transcends the physical act that defines it. It draws on references from performance art studies to reflect on how this poetic exercise manifests in cinema. The study analyzes a selection of works by filmmakers and artists, highlighting three distinct manifestations of the phenomenon: “characters who walk,” “directors who walk,” and “spectators who walk.” Walking is seen both as a narrative resource and, in the context of experimental cinema that adopts installation forms and occupies unconventional spaces, as a result of strategies that invite the viewer to actively engage with the work.
