Abstract

This article intends to verify how 2 Sons of Francisco (2 Filhos de Francisco – A História de Zezé di Camargo & Luciano, 2005), by Breno Silveira, dialogues with melodrama. The film was barely treated as such at the time of its release, and its director rejects the term – here are two reasons that motivate the main objective of this investigation: to show how the film fits into the Latin American melodrama tradition. An analysis of the work also seeks to bring other interpretative possibilities and, based on them, risks placing this sertanejo biopic as a plausible model for ideas by Martín-Barbero and Thomasseau that lack examples.
