Abstract

This essay deploys media archaeology to analyze the representation of the animal figure in Pre-Cinema and Early Cinema images. In order to examine the richness and complexity of the animal-image relationship, it focuses on pioneering productions by Pathé and the Edison Manufacturing Company. Our work contributes to the so-called "animal turn," which encompasses different media and fields of knowledge in contemporary thought.
