Abstract

This essay approaches Lola Arias's project on Malvinas (Veteranos, video installation, 2014; Campo minado, performance, 2016; Doble de riesgo, exhibition that included the video installation, 2016; Minefield / Campo minado, book, 2017; and Teatro de guerra, film, 2018) by focusing on affective politics and the senses that they trigger. Based on the assumption that the success of her project results from the affects displayed on stage and the built in "affective atmosphere" (Anderson, 2011), this article relies on Affect theory to think through three of the topics most analyzed by critics and academics: "The Real" on stage, the limits between reality and fiction in the framework of contemporary forms of the documentary genre, and the problem of testimony in the hybrid landscape that the artistic construction of history entails.
