Abstract

The 1982 Malvinas/Falklands War of 1982 has been a recurrent topic in recent Argentine documentary films. This article aims to understand the way Malvinas is constructed in Argentine culture and cinematography, given the multiple cultural productions that marked the 40th anniversary of the war. An analysis of the documentary Buenas noches Malvinas (Ana Fraile and Lucas Scavino, 2020), which revolves around the memories of combatant Fabián Bustos’s parents, and siblings, provides a collective account of the 1982 conflict, which reverberates even today due to the trauma of war. Thus, this article examines the role of testimony, written chronicles, and the landscape of the islands in the recreation of the memories of 1982, in order to reflect on the way contemporary cinema builds memory about Malvinas.
